Saracens Begin To Dismantle Title-Winning Squad In Preparation For Relegation

It has been an interesting year for Saracens. The season began well, with Sarries looking to defend their crown, and many thought they would do just that. It very quickly went downhill though, and by Christmas, we had the salary cap scandal revealed. In January, their relegation at the end of this season was confirmed. Inevitably, their large squad (and we now know the reason for its size) will be dismantled at the end of the season, and a good number of players have already announced their departures or have actually made them.

The first to announce their departure was Wales international Liam Williams, who left the club in January. He had previously announced that he would leave at the end of the season, to return to Wales and his former club, Scarlets, but both he and Saracens brought the move forward to January, and he made his departure then. This was in an effort to try and remove some wages off of the total bill to bring the club back into line with the rules that the club should have been following anyway.
