It has been traditional in the last few seasons for teams promoted to the Premiership Rugby from the RFU Championship to make the reverse journey after just one season’s stay. In 2016, Bristol Bears (then known as Bristol Rugby) were promoted, and in 2017, at the end of that season, they departed the top flight. Their place was taken by London Irish who, yes, you guessed it, were relegated in 2018, also after just one season. It was Bristol who came back up (again), for the 2018/2019 season, but then the trend broke.
Bristol survived relegation, and it was Newcastle Falcons who went down to the Championship last season. It looks very much like the Falcons will be rejoining us next season, as they currently have a huge lead at the top of the Championship, and will be taking the place of already-relegated Saracens, of course.
